About Obedience
Dogs need to learn many skills to live in our homes and become well-behaved members of our families. Our obedience classes build the relationship between you and your dog with positive, respectful training methods.
Pet Behavior Help offers many different obedience classes to meet your needs and help your dog be the best family pet they can be.
Obedience Classes
Obedience classes are offered in a group format. All classes are held at the Pet Behavior Help Training Center.
Class List
Pet Obedience
This introductory class is for dogs of any age and puppies 7 months and older.
We emphasize the prevention of problem behaviors and use positive training methods to help your dog develop good manners. You’ll learn how to teach your dog essential skills and commands, including:
- Sit
- Down
- Come
- Stay
- Off
- Leash Walking
- Drop It / Leave It
- Polite Greeting
Dogs do not attend the first class. Dogs and puppies rescued within 6 months of enrollment receive a 10% discount. See Pricing & Policies for more details.
Advanced Pet Obedience
This is an advanced obedience class in which dogs learn to walk nicely around other dogs and people, work on longer stays and build more self-control in distractions.
We help dogs develop good manners at home and in the community by focusing on:
- Loose-leash walking in distractions
- Passing another dog and person
- Polite Greeting
- Drop It / Leave It
- Come
Prerequisites: This class is for older puppies and dogs who have completed a Pet Behavior Help obedience class or who pass a free evaluation. Dogs must be able to do the following in a group of other dogs and people:
- Sit
- Down
- Come
- Stay for 10 seconds
- Walk on loose leash for at least 15 feet
- Display no uncontrollable, disruptive behavior, such as barking, whining or lunging at other dogs
Recall Class
This class is for dogs and puppies of any age.
In Recall, we focus on helping dogs learn the life-saving emergency recall command. Working inside or outside, on leash or off, we’ll teach you how to build a reliable recall command that works when you need it. This class addresses all skill levels, from beginning recalls on leash to high-level distraction proofing.
Leash Walking / Intro to Heeling
This class is for dogs of any age and puppies 7 months and older.
In this class, we focus on leash walking techniques, including beginning heeling, which can lead to Rally or Competition Obedience.
Prerequisite: Basic Pet Obedience class or permission of instructor.
Tricks
This class is for dogs of any age and puppies 7 months and older.
Tricks aren’t just for impressing your friends! Teaching your dog tricks can help them focus, have fun and build confidence in new situations. You’ll learn techniques like luring, shaping and more so you have the tools to teach your dog a variety of tricks.
Prerequisite: Basic Pet Obedience class or permission of instructor.
